Scarf Story Dolphin Mosaic: After many successes in battles against the Roman Empire the brilliant Carthaginian General Hannibal Barca was finally defeated in the Battle of Zama in 202BC leading to the beginning of eight centuries of Roman occupation in Carthage (todays Tunisia). As well as developing infrastructure, architecture, philosophy, and forms of government, in the city of El Djem, the Romans created many artworks especially mosaics and ceramics. While El Djem is most famous for its 3rd Century Roman Amphitheatre the archaeological Museum houses a unique collection of Roman Mosaics dating from the 3rd and 4th Century AD. These Mosaics mostly depict Mythological personages, abstract elements and Fauna. The Dolphin image from the house of Dolphins derives from the 3rdCentury Roman Mosaic of a Nymph lying on a sea horse accompanied by two Dolphins. For this scarf the faded mosaic was enriched with the lively colours of the Dolphin’s underwater world.
Silk Story Silk is known as the Queen of fabrics: Natural sheen that never diminishes/ soft, light and luxurious / Cool in Summer – Warm in Winter/ Absorbing perspiration yet letting skin breathe/ Promoting skin rejuvenation/ Hypoallergenic/ Eco-Friendly/ Biodegradable/ Easily Washed/ Great tensile strength and durability. Confucius and Chinese legend narrate that around 3000BC the 14 year old Empress Leizu, wife of the Yellow Emperor, discovered Silk when a cocoon fell into her tea cup. She then developed the art of raising silk worms (Sericulture) and became known as the Goddess of Silk in Chinese Mythology. Being an exquisite, precious fibre, for many millennia, it was one of the most zealously guarded secrets in history.
Enjoy your silk garment – our printing techniques produce colours that will not run or fade. With fundamental care, this silk scarf will maintain it’s vibrant colours and quality ‘Silk’ feel for many years. As Silk is a natural fibre avoid drying in direct sunlight. Also, avoid contact with bleaches or solvents with alcohol such as some hairsprays.
Hand Washing: Preferred: Use lukewarm water and a mild non-alkaline soap such as baby shampoo. Avoid soaking and rinse with a few tablespoons of distilled white vinegar added to the clear water. Avoid wringing or twisting and roll in a towel then hang to dry. Avoid using dryers.
Ironing: Most wrinkles can be removed by hanging the scarf in the shower and letting humidity work. While the scarf is hanging a steam iron can be used carefully avoiding wetting locally. If necessary use a cool iron setting (Silk Setting) on the back of the damp scarf – avoid too much heat.
